Question by Esmerelda: Is anyone alarmed at the lack of understanding about sex and anatomy kids and parents on this site have?
I just answered a question about talking to your child about sex and couldn't believe the number of moms who thought their child got everything they needed to know from friends,etc. I don't doubt they get a lot of info that way, but take a look at the number of "could I be pregnant" and "can you get pregnant this way" and "could I have an STD" questions you see on this site and you'll know immediately that they aren't getting the CORRECT and complete info... Isn't it better to have an embarrassing conversation with your child than to have to take them for an HIV test or help them decide what to do about an unwanted pregnancy?

A lot of parents on here think "Oh well if I don't tell my child, then the less they know and they wont do it" which is the furthest from the truth. I agree with you. It is sad. my parents had the talk with me. It was awkward but we got over it. My mom always gave us a bunch of condoms, especially when we were in high school. She would just say "just in case, I would prefer you not having sex, but if you must I would rather you atleast be protected." That's where I think a lot of the parents go wrong. Parents think if they only preach abstinence that it will do the trick. I don't know about you, but I did not always do what my parents told me to do or not to do. I think giving your child the "talk" as well as telling them "if you need me I'm here, I dont want you to be afraid to come to me" then that makes a difference.
